My client operates and maintains two Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plants in The Netherlands. These power plants generate over 1000W of electricity and consist of gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, heat recovery steam generators, electrical switchgear, a water treatment plant and supportive systems.
They’re aim is to review and purchase assets that they view as “underperforming” and make their output more efficient to increase the overall return for their investors. This is where this role comes in because they need an out-of-the-box thinker to help them increase the reliability and availability of the plant this role will focus on. Does this sound interesting? The main focus for this position will be to manage mechanical maintenance activities to achieve high levels of reliability, output, and heat rate.
You will have to promote a proactive working culture in the team and create a safe working environment for the 3 FTEs that you will be managing. Preparing and coordinating the mechanical activities during outages will be the most important thing in this role, you will have to coordinate the team to solve issues as quickly as possible.
This will be achieved by you coaching and supervising the junior mechanical engineers, technicians and contractors on site. Additionally, you will have to liaise with the operations team what the day to day priorities are and work together to complete all the tasks you outline.
Working in this way will allow you to report maintenance cost compared to budget and take measures to prevent budget overruns or highlight when savings are possible.
This position is very important to my client because you will have to report the progress of maintenance activities and take measures to improve performance. Managing the overall maintenance work flow in the Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
It is crucial that you’re willing to take part in the call out service for the mechanical team when required and replace the Maintenance Manager when they are absent. Does this sound like you? What is the bare minimum expected of candidates applying?
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience of working in the power generation sector
- Ability to process numbers into spreadsheets and databases
- Experience in managing maintenance activities on site
- Proven track record of supervising teams of approximately 5 FTEs
- Skilled in communication and able to motivate colleagues
- Fluent in Dutch and English (German speaking will also be viewed as a bonus)
