We’re working on behalf of a forward-thinking energy developer making a strategic pivot from solar to battery storage. They’re seeking their first dedicated Director of BESS to spearhead the development of utility-scale battery storage projects across Germany.
This is a ground-floor opportunity to shape the company’s energy storage strategy, lead project development from concept to grid connection, and eventually build out a high-performing team. If you’ve delivered multiple full-lifecycle BESS projects and have strong relationships with grid operators, this role offers the chance to lead something transformative.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the full development lifecycle of battery storage projects—from site identification to grid connection.
• Act as the company’s subject matter expert on BESS, guiding strategy, technology choices, and market entry.
• Build and nurture relationships with grid operators, regulators, and key stakeholders.
• Collaborate with internal teams to assess project feasibility, grid capacity, and commercial viability.
• Lay the groundwork for future team expansion, with plans to begin hiring by the end of next year.
• Represent the company externally in industry forums, partnerships, and regulatory discussions.

Experience:

• Proven track record delivering full-lifecycle battery storage projects.
• Deep understanding of German grid infrastructure and permitting processes.
• Strong network across TSOs/DSOs and energy market stakeholders.
• Experience managing or mentoring teams is a plus.
• Comfortable working independently in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment.
• Willingness to travel to Hamburg on an adhoc basis.
