Location: Remote in Mid-west or North-East.
We are seeking a Wastewater Engineer to join a growing engineering and infrastructure team delivering projects across municipal wastewater, government-funded water infrastructure, and industrial pretreatment/biogas facilities. This position will play a key role in the planning, design, permitting, and execution of complex wastewater treatment projects that improve environmental sustainability and support critical infrastructure investments.
The ideal candidate will have experience in wastewater treatment processes, hydraulic and process design, construction support, and regulatory compliance. Exposure to industrial wastewater pretreatment systems, anaerobic digestion, renewable natural gas (RNG), or biogas facilities is highly desirable.
Key ResponsibilitiesPlan, design, and evaluate wastewater treatment infrastructure for municipal, government, and industrial clients.Develop engineering calculations, technical reports, process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, and design specifications.Support wastewater treatment plant upgrades, expansions, and rehabilitation projects.Design and optimize biological treatment systems, pumping stations, lift stations, solids handling systems, and nutrient removal processes.Participate in industrial pretreatment projects involving high-strength waste streams, biogas generation, anaerobic digestion, and resource recovery technologies.Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, mechanical, electrical, structural, and controls engineers.Assist with permitting and regulatory compliance activities, including local, state, and federal environmental requirements.Perform hydraulic modeling, process modeling, and treatment system evaluations.Support construction activities including submittal reviews, RFIs, site visits, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting.Engage with clients, regulators, contractors, and project stakeholders throughout project delivery.Contribute to proposals, technical presentations, and business development efforts.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.3+ years of experience in wastewater engineering, treatment plant design, or water/wastewater infrastructure projects.Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes including:Activated sludgeBiological nutrient removal (BNR)Secondary clarificationSolids handling and dewateringPumping and conveyance systemsExperience preparing engineering reports, plans, specifications, and design calculations.Familiarity with environmental regulations and permitting requirements.Strong communication and project coordination skills.
